Reggie MacDonald — A Life Remembered

Terms of Use and Disclaimer

The Reggie MacDonald Digital Archive preserves writings, photographs, documents, family recollections and other historical material relating to Reggie MacDonald and his life.

By using this website, you acknowledge that it is a historical and family archive. Material is presented for preservation, education, research and general information.

Reggie’s Own Words

A significant portion of this archive consists of material written by Reggie himself.

Reggie wrote about his own experiences, memories, beliefs and opinions. His writings sometimes describe other people and events from his personal perspective.

When the archive publishes Reggie’s original writing, preserving his voice is an important part of preserving the historical record. The inclusion of a statement in Reggie’s writing does not mean that the archive or Reggie’s family has independently verified or adopted that statement as fact.

Where additional records, family recollections or other information provide useful context, the archive may include that information separately.

Memories, Recollections and Differing Accounts

The archive also contains memories and recollections from family members and other people who knew Reggie.

Human memory is imperfect, particularly when people are recalling events that occurred many years ago. Different people may remember the same event differently.

Where accounts differ, the archive may preserve more than one version rather than attempting to present an uncertain interpretation as established fact.

Whenever practical, we try to identify whether information comes from Reggie’s writing, a family recollection, another contributor, an official record or later editorial research.

Historical Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to present information accurately, but the archive should not be understood as guaranteeing that every date, recollection, transcription, identification or historical detail is correct.

The archive continues to evolve as additional records are reviewed and new information becomes available.

If you notice an error or have information that could improve the historical record, we welcome corrections through Help Tell the Story or Contact Us.

Crime, Addiction, Jail and Other Difficult Subjects

Reggie wrote extensively about addiction, drugs, crime, incarceration and other difficult periods of his life.

This material is preserved because it is part of his story and because Reggie’s own experiences may have historical, educational and personal value to readers.

The archive does not publish this material to glamorize or encourage criminal activity, illegal drug use, substance abuse or other harmful behaviour.

Descriptions of drug use, treatment, withdrawal, medication or other health-related matters reflect historical experiences and should not be interpreted as medical advice.

Allegations and Statements About Other People

Historical writings and recollections may contain statements about other people, including descriptions of disputes, criminal activity, relationships and other events.

Such statements should be understood in the context in which they appear. A statement made by Reggie or another contributor represents that person’s account unless the archive specifically indicates that it has been independently established.

References to allegations, investigations, arrests or charges should not be interpreted as proof that a person committed an offence.

Where appropriate, the archive may anonymize or redact the names of private individuals while preserving the historical substance of the original material.

Names and Privacy

The archive contains material created over many years, and some historical writings and documents may identify people who were part of Reggie’s life.

We try to balance preservation of the historical record with reasonable respect for personal privacy.

If you find your name or personal information in the archive and have concerns about its publication, please contact us and provide the specific page or pages where the information appears.

We will review reasonable requests individually. Where appropriate, identifying information may be corrected, anonymized, redacted or removed while preserving the historical meaning of the material.

Court, Police and Official Records

The archive may contain court records, police-related material and documents originating from government or other public institutions.

The presence of such material does not imply that the RCMP, a court, government agency or other institution endorses, sponsors or is affiliated with the Reggie MacDonald Digital Archive.

Canada generally recognizes an open-court principle, but access to or possession of a court document does not necessarily mean that everything contained in it may be republished without restriction. Publication bans, sealing orders, redaction orders and other legal restrictions can apply to particular proceedings or information. Ministère de la Justice

The archive intends to comply with applicable court orders, publication bans and other legal requirements.

If an individual, organization or public institution has a concern about official or historical material appearing in the archive, please contact us, identify the specific material and explain the concern. Requests will be reviewed individually.

Copyright and Reuse

Material appearing in the archive may be protected by copyright belonging to Reggie’s family, contributors, photographers, publishers or other copyright holders.

Displaying material on this website does not place it in the public domain or automatically grant permission for unrestricted reproduction.

Canadian copyright law provides exceptions including fair dealing for purposes such as research, private study and education, and separately addresses criticism, review and news reporting. The application of those provisions depends on the circumstances. Department of Justice Canada

Nothing on the website should be considered medical, legal, addiction-treatment or other professional advice.

Anyone seeking advice about their own health, substance use, legal circumstances or other personal situation should consult an appropriate qualified professional.

Changes and Corrections

The archive is an ongoing project.

Pages may be corrected, expanded, reorganized, annotated or updated as additional information becomes available. Material may also be restricted or removed when appropriate because of privacy, copyright, legal or archival considerations.

We do not guarantee that every historical version of a page will remain publicly accessible.
