Reggie’s Overdue Library Books
January 2006 – After Reggie disappeared, a few bills showed up from the Provincial Library for overdue books.
Reggie was a voracious reader. The first book, “In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex“, looks like a really interesting book, it tells the true story of the Nantucket whaling ship Essex that was rammed repeatedly by a huge 80-ton whale, and it ultimately sank.
The second book is “The River at the Center of the World”, and it tells the story of a British historian, and a Chinese woman, and they go on a 4000-mile journey up the Yangtze River, as the Three Gorges Dam is in the early phase of construction. I can’t imagine a trip that long following a river, but it must have been challenging and interesting.
The last book, on the first page, was “Capone: The Man and the Era”, which documents the prohibition era in Chicago, and the rise and fall of Capone. An interesting book, I imagine.
The first book on the second page is “A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail”, by Bill Bryson. It is a true story, with a lot of humor, about a man who lived in New Hampshire, and noticed that the Appalachian Trail, which is @ 2200 miles long, ran by his house, so he decided to hike it with a friend. It was made into a movie with Robert Redford.
The last book was “The Long Hard Road Out of Hell”, which is the autobiography of rock star, Marilyn Manson. I would bet that he did not let my parents see the cover of this book. I imagine that the book might be an interesting read, though, and certainly right up Reggie’s alley.
