Reggie Challenges a Welfare Decision
August 2000
After being denied assistance for June and July 2000, Reggie appealed the decision. His appeal was heard on July 26 and was unsuccessful.
Reggie believed the decision was based on a misunderstanding of the treatment recommendations made by Addiction Services. On August 4, he wrote asking that the matter be reviewed again, arguing that outpatient counselling had been considered an acceptable treatment plan after he completed detoxification.
Reggie did not soften his criticism. He accused one official of making an “incorrect assumption” and described her actions as “misguided” and “incompetent.”
The request did not succeed. A handwritten notation dated August 7 states: “PERSONAL OPINIONS / NOT NEW EVIDENCE.”
The following is Reggie’s letter requesting another review.
Ultimately, his appeal was denied.
