Jim's statement to the RCMP

The following is the statement recorded by Reg's dad to the RCMP, on March 10, 2001:

My wife Helen and I left to go to Montague at 5:15 pm last night. We took the car and left the truck parked in yard with the keys in it. I usually leave the keys in it over the visor.  My son, Reggie, was home with his son and niece. Reggie lives in our basement. The kids are 11 years old and 9 years old. No one had permission to drive my truck last night, including my son Reggie.

There are two long distance blocked calls on our phone from last night. One at 7:03 pm and one at 8:29 pm. My grand-daughter answered the one one at 8:29 pm. A man asked for Reggie. She got him and she said he left the house right after that. Her name is Chelsea MacDonald.  We got home about 8:45 pm and the back door was locked. Chelsea told us Reggie locked the door when he left. I noticed my truck was gone. I assumed Reggie must be in Souris visiting a friend. I wasn't concerned.

I received a call at 2:04 am this morning from Reggie. He said that he was the Prince County Hospital. He said that he had a broken nose and was kidnapped by fellows associated with the Hells Angels.

He said he got a call to meet them at the Co-op parking lot in Souris. They threw him on the floor of the van and were taking him to Montreal. I asked him where my truck was and he said the RCMP had it impounded and were dusting it for prints, I didn't believe him. I called the hospital at 6:30 am to see if he was there and they verified he had been taken in there and released.

I am the registered owner of the truck, '94 Chevy Cheyenne 4x4, blue/silver, 70,000 kms.

About 2 weeks ago at 2 am on the weekend, two guys and a girl showed up at the house. One burly fellow with a beard, round face. Reggie locked the door that night because it was locked. We don't lock the doors. He asked for Reggie. Reggie came upstairs and talked to him though the window at the back of the house. I listened to what was said. The other fellow was standing by the open car door, tall slim fellow 5'8", 5'9". The girl got out of the back seat and got behind the wheel. The car looked like a Ford Probe, a hatchback, dark color. They were talking about money.

Reggie told them that he paid them and that some of the money was missing. Whoever he paid the money to took some of it. They left after Reggie threatened to call the RCMP. I asked Reggie about it and he said they were from the Moncton area. He said they were after money for a drug debt. He said that he met them in Sleepy Hollow when he was in there. They were both on Parole from NB.

Reggie is obsessed with drugs. He told me he started when he was 14 yrs old on mushrooms, about 1981-82. We knew there was something wrong. HE was kicked out of St. Mary's University for selling drugs and charged. He went to the streets of Toronto for a couple of years. He had used mushrooms, grass, cocaine, heroin and his drug of choice is prescription drugs.

He can make concoctions himself. He did time for possession of cocaine. He was living in Charlottetown, but we moved him up here about 2 months ago. He had a job up at the rink and lost it.

One week he's great, the next he's a nightmare. He was scared because he was locking doors. He was getting phone calls, mostly blocked calls. He also gets calls from the Belliveau area of New Brunswick. He usually calls once a week on the weekends. He called here yesterday too.
